I went horseback riding once in New Mexico some years ago and several things became apparent to me: 1) Clint Eastwood looks cool riding a horse and 2) I am not Clint Eastwood and 3) The horse was in charge and was driving me around

The guide told me that horses sense their rider. If you’re assertive, it will respect you. If not, it turns into a bully and will seriously mess with you. Needless to say it was the latter experience for me

But it was a bit sobering in a good way: Here’s a being that doesn’t care who I am and is just being honest. I took it as a learning experience: 1) I’m not a horse person but 2) Horses taught me that sometimes when diplomacy doesn’t work, you just have to be an absolute brute to get what you want
